History of Kites4U

Way back in the 80s, Manni Kluge the driving force behind Kites4U came across aerobatic stunt kites for the very first time while watching street artists perform dives, climbs and loops with Diamond shaped kites at Pier 39 in San Francisco. Little did he know then, that this encounter with kites would change part of his life in the future. Years later he was reminded again of those wonderful flying machines during a shopping trip in Germany. A shopping centre was decorated with kites of all types, shapes and sizes. Being an aviator he took a keen interest to these flying machines. A 2-Line ACE Diamond Stunter that was outflown in only a few days. 2 more were added to make a stack of three. Still not enough. Seriously hooked, in a very short time he upgraded to larger swept wing kites. Names like Spin Off, Fire Dart, Hawaiian and Phantom will remind some of you of the early days of Sport Kite Flying. Out of frustration that little guidance and help was out there on how to fly these aerobatic kites, he starting writing a booklet about how to master the art of Stunt and Sport Kite Flying (about 4000 copies were sold or given away in the UK and as far as Australia between 1992 and 1994). While on an exchange tour as a flying instructor in the UK (not just teaching how to fly kites) he was part of a team of 4 kite enthusiasts named Lost In Space Hi to Barry, Mike and Simon should they find this page), that toured the countryside to promote and introduce the public to kite flying. It was then when he met his first future customers. The public liked what they saw and asked where kites like theirs could be purchased. Shops where a long way away and this gave birth to the idea to start Kites & More, a small but dedicated kite business. His jet powered swept wing flying machine took him eventually back to Germany and Italy. His kites always with him, he never lost sight of his early Kites & More activities. In 1996 it was time to leave the supersonic world behind. Going back to the UK was on the agenda. University studies did not entertain him enough. He revived Kites & More form the early 90s, that now involves the family under the trading name EMKAY. Constantly on the lookout for unusual things, they continue since then in the supply of fine kites, related products and expert advise to those who share a similar passion in flying things.
